Gatunek zamieszkujący zachodnią i środkową część Europy, ponadto znany z całej Norwegii oraz trzech południowych prowincji Szwecji. W Polsce notowany tylko z trzech krain południowych. Występuje głównie na obszarach górzystych, niekiedy poławiany pod napływami na terenach nizinnych.
