Gatunek zamieszkujący głównie środkową i wschodnią Europę oraz południową część Fennoskandii, na południe sięga do północnego Bałkanu i południowych Alp, wykazywany również z zachodniej Syberii i Zakaukazia. Występuje w różnego typu wodach zakwaszonych — humusowych, torfowiskowych i bagiennych.
