Gatunek europejski o niedostatecznie poznanym rozmieszczeniu, gdyż przez wielu autorów traktowany jako synonim M. lugubris Sturm. W Polsce notowany tylko z pięciu krain w południowej części kraju. Występuje na kwitnących miętach — Mentha L. rosnących na miejscach wilgotnych.
