Gatunek rozsiedlony głównie w południowej i środkowej części Europy, poza tym notowany z Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii i trzech południowych prowincji Szwecji. W Polsce z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze, ale notowany dotychczas z nielicznych, rozproszonych stanowisk. Występuje głównie w wyższych partiach górskich, rzadziej na podgórzach i terenach nizinnych. Żyje w strumieniach, na wilgotnych murawach i bagnistych łąkach.
